Henningsen Cold Storage is already one of the biggest cold storage companies in the entire country. However, it sounds like they’re poised to get even bigger in the not-so-distant future. The company, which was founded way back in 1923 and is based out of Portland, Washington, has reportedly decided to build a $30 million cold storage facility in Richland, Washington after agreeing to pay $1.3 million for approximately 26 acres of land in the city. Henningsen offers cooler and freezer warehouse space services, and outside of Portland and Richland, the company also has facilities in Seattle, WA, Stilwell, OK, Boise, ID, and Scranton, PA.
Henningsen’s expansion into Richland has actually been a long time coming. After a company called The Austin Co. helped local officials develop Byam Business Park in the area where Henningsen will build their facility, they met with Henningsen executives in 2014 and presented them with their plans. Their presentation included everything from their thoughts on how Richland could benefit Henningsen to environmental assessments of the park. Henningsen was interested almost immediately and is now planning on building on the land as soon as they can. They will complete the building process in three stages, according to the Tri-City Herald, beginning with the construction of a 142,000-square-foot warehouse.
The addition of Henningsen will provide a big boost to the local economy. There are more than 11,000 people who live in Henningsen, and many of them are expected to begin working at the new facility. Henningsen will also now serve as the cold storage distribution hub for the region’s food processors and will play a vital role in food storage for those companies in the area. It’s an exciting time for those in Richland and, furthermore, an exciting time for Henningsen, which is a company that continues to grow by leaps and bounds.
