graylogogifGray Distribution Services, Inc. of Albany, Georgia announced today the sale of its warehouse operation to Gray Logistics, LLC owned by Wesley Griffin and Michael White.

The warehouse operation consists of two warehouses in Albany, Georgia and one in Ashburn, Georgia. Gray Logistics is also taking over leases that Gray Distribution had on two additional warehouses, one in Albany, Georgia and one in Leesburg, Georgia.  The total storage space for all warehouses in this organization is six hundred thirty-five thousand (635,000) square feet.

Phil R. Greene, President/CEO of Gray Distribution Services, Inc. recalls “I first started out managing the warehousing division of Gray Communications Systems, Inc. in 1974 when it was a forty-eight thousand (48,000) square foot operation.  In 1993, I purchased the operation from Gray Communications, and by that time we were operating two hundred seventy-thousand (270,000) square feet of space.

Looking forward, Phil says, “The business has been very rewarding and is continuing to grow, however, after thirty-nine (39) years, I have arrived at a stage of my life where I am going to spend more time with my growing family and other personal interests.”

Phil also says, “I was fortunate to have on staff two very capable managers, Wesley and Mike, who had an interest in buying my ownership.  They both have many years of experience in warehousing and distribution, and there is no doubt in my mind that they will carry on the tradition of strategic and controlled growth of this business. Fortunately, they will start out with a very strong and diversified customer base, but most importantly, they will be starting off with twenty-five well-seasoned employees, who have a combined 275 years of employment at Gray Distribution.  They are loyal, dedicated and knowledgeable about what it takes to service these customers.  Without a doubt, I firmly believe that these employees were the primary reason for my success.”

Griffin adds, “Working for Mr. Phil for 8+ years has been a pleasure.  I feel the success of Gray Distribution is due to Mr. Phil’s hard work, dedication to the business, and knowledge in the industry.  The Gray employees have also played a strong role in the company’s success and name reputation.  Mike and I have some big shoes to fill, but feel very confident about being able to accomplish this and continue to grow the business.”
